Call out for Participants! Darkrooms in the Home

Are you LGBTQIA+ or non-heterosexual?  Do you have experience of darkrooms in the home or in spaces that feel like home to you?  If so, then this project is for you!  I wish to speak to people who have experience of one or multiple of the following as part of my PhD research:

  • Have you ever made or owned a home darkroom, permanent or semi-permanent, in Britan?

  • Do you work with analogue and/or alternative photographic processes at home?

  • Do you have memories of home darkrooms? Has this influenced your photography?

  • Do you have experience of setting up or running a home or community darkroom?

  • Have you been part of a community darkroom that felt like home?

  • What is the relevance of this question with regarding to darkrooms: "Are you LGBTQIA+ or non-heterosexual?"

    • The project is specifically looking at the photographic history and practices of members of the LGBTQIA+ Community as historically, this community has a different relationship with ideas of what 'home' is and what home means to them. Furthermore, their experiences as photographic practitioners living in Britian will potentially be impacted by social, political, cultural attitudes towards the LGBTQIA+ community (and laws impacting). The addition of the term "non-heterosexual" is to be inclusive of those who do not like or use labels but do not class themselves as heterosexual.

In short, this project is focused on LGBTQIA+ Photographic history and photographic practices.
