  • No Bill. I think Izzy was the only one, and was at that time (I believe from memory, as Angela and I stayed with them in NuT) the partner of the late Murray Martin, who was the major driving force behind Amber Associates

  • Supplying photo credits for the humble, the gritty Magritey cover is Peter Turner's and the inside one is yours, Paul. In fact I published that same image (and those by several of the others in Singular Realities) in the 45-page article on British photography I did for U.S. Camera Annual 1977. (Any idea which came first? I can't recall.) By the way, Isabella Jedrzejcsyk (yep I do know how to pronounce it) was also a member of Amber. Any one else?

  • I endorse what Bill said. Good crew. This is catalogue from, I think, the first show in 1977 curated by Gerry Badger. It was a bit thin on documentary work, which Amber was well known for, so was a little controversial amongst the associates....

  • Amber has a distinguished history, beginning as a collective in 1968 and opening Side Gallery in '77, not least among whom is the photographer Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen. Head on up Tyneside and grab one of these jobs, someone. It's a special place.
