John Henry Gear - 1896 Photographic Award

For sale at http://www.rubylane.com/shops/molotov/iteml/6469#pic1 - is a bronze plaque awarded to John Henry Gear by  l’Association Belge de Photographie at their 1896 Exposition.

John Henry GEAR was born 1859 at Yeovil, Somerset, England. He was listed as a teacher at the 1881 Census at Gloucester, England. He later worked in London, teaching photography at the Cripplegate Institute, and had a photographic school at 8 Nottingham Terrace, Regents Park, London.

Gear was elected to the membership of the Royal Photographic Society in 1894 becoming a Fellow in 1895. He died on 6 March 1946 aged 82. There is an obituary in the Photographic Journal vol. 86, p. 103.
