Information and discussion on all aspects of British photographic history
I am trying to trace correspondence (nearly 40 years of if) between daguerreotypist Prof Leone Glukman (Dublin) and William Constable (Brighton) which I have seen reference to. Anyone know where it is?

Hi Emily, many thanks for that suggestion. I'll follow it up. Best regards, David
Thanks again, Michael. Yes, Pauline Heathcote's book had been brought to my attention. If any other thoughts cross your mind, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks, D
Glad to have been of some help. There is one reference to Glukman in the Heathcote's A Faithfull Likeness along with a couple to Constable, but nothing linking them and no reference to correspondence.
Many thanks for that info Michael. It confirms Glukman's country of origin which I did not know.
I came aware of correspondence between William Constable and Leone Glukman in a book by Edward Chandler titled 'Photography in Ireland: the Nineteenth Century' (published 2001). Chandler makes reference to, and quotes from, the 'Gluckman/Constable correspondence' several times but does not appear to indicate where the archive of letters can be located. According to Chandler, Glukman corresponded with Constable and his family for nearly forty years, and after Constable died in 1861, Glukman continued corresponding with his nephew, Clair Grece. (Unfortunately Edward Chandler has since died so obviously I cannot inquire from him).In Edward Chandler's book he assumes that Glukman and Constable first met in Richard Beard's studio in London in the first half of the 1840s when they were both learning the daguerreotype process.
Hi, David. You will find some files on Glukman at The National Archives http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=Glukman A2A is usually a good starting point for other publicly-held archives but in this case has only brought up the TNA files.
