Information and discussion on all aspects of British photographic history

Information sought: Ian Smith, British photographer for LIFE magazine

Ian Smith (life dates unknown) photographed for the American magazine LIFE in 1945/6 and was listed on the masthead as a staff photographer. Numbers of his images of British politicians of the period, of movie stars, directors and producers, and his reportage of life in England in the aftermath of WW2, are held by Getty Images.

I have started a Wikipedia article on him. However there is scant information about his life. Does any other member have information on this quite significant British / Scottish photographer? I would be most grateful for any leads.

Thank you for your work on this Tony, that narrows the field. Is it possible to discover the date of death for each of these?

Thank you Peter, that has filled in a few gaps. I don't know how missed that issue of Life, but it's great to see Smith had that recognition.

Best Regards,

James

It's not much, but the 25 June 1945 issue of LIFE has a short bio of Smith and relates that he joined the magazine in September 1944: https://books.google.com.au/books?id=YUgEAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA19&l...
