I don't recall if you have seen my 1989 facsimile of The Pencil of Nature but this is figure 37 in the Introductory Volume. You might be amused that Harrison Horblitt marked his copy as being extracted from an Art Union (it is now at Harvard). My Catalogue Raisonne number for this image is Schaaf 1445. I'm not really used to communicating like this through a 'social network' (is that what it is?) - please feel free to contact me directly at ljs@verizon.net - or we can continue through here - if you have many Talbots, perhaps you could send me scans and whatever details you have on them - I'll integrate the information into the Catalogue Raisonne (your identity can be kept private, if you wish) and pass along any information that I already have on the images. Hello, good to hear from you again after lo these many years. Lacking the dimensions, paper type and a larger image, I can only guess so much. While Jones did a number of views of the Temple of Vesta this is not one that I know. I would not have thought of Jones stylistically looking at this, especially the low camera angle and lack of integration of the background. Rev. Bridges? But of course there were a lot of photographers active in Rome in the 1840s and it could be just about anybody. Are there any markings? Provenance? Larry
