Hello again and thanks for your efforts.
I bought the album some 20 years ago in the then antiques market in Camden Town in London, because I felt it very unusual and the collages reminded me of H P Robinson's.
I am afraid I have no other provenance. Please keep in touch with any discoveries you may make.
Kind regards,
Meir
This is now a total mystery to me! I wondered if the KP and CBP might be members of the Portal family who were related to the Hicks Beach family by marriage but none of the intitials fit any that I can find. Any idea where the album came from? I have some books on the Hicks Beach family and will have a look to see if any initials link.
Hello Again,
Some more photos,by the way I also posted a blog on this site with a combination of the photos just as a sample, since they are difficult to individually identify. There is no other written information in the album.
I have been through my Llewelyn archives and come up with the following. The house I don't know but wonder whether it might be Williamstripp, a home of the Hicks Beach family. I don't know the house nor do I have a pic of it but it might be onm a web site. It's near Coln St Aldwyn. The Hicks Beach family are now the Earls of St Aldwyn and can be found in Burke's peerage.
The family group is as follows. I think I suggested the older woman was Caroline Julia. Not so - my mistake. She is Lady Hicks Beach, nee Harriet Victoria Stratton, wife of Sir Michael Hicks Hicks Beach, 8th baronet. married 14 Aug 1832 and died 1900. Her husband was Lord Chancellor, known as the 'Black Chancellor' Their eldest son was created 1st Earl St Aldwyn.
The girls in the photo are her daughters, though I don't know names off hand. There were 6 altogether. The couple are their eldest daughter Caroline Julia, who married 7 May 1861 John Talbot Dillwyn Llewelyn of Penllergare, near Swansea, south Wales, eldest son of John & Emma Dillwyn Llewelyn. She died 1917 and he died 1927. Their descendants are still around and known to me!
I will go through my Llewelyn archives and check on the identities of the people and the house. The people are probably family. Faces are familiar. The older woman is Caroline Julia Dillwyn Llewelyn, wife of John Talbot Dillwyn Llewelyn, later Sir John, first baronet. The other faces are familiar but need checking. I think the man is JTDL as a younger man. Is it possible to know what else is in the album or its provenance? Any names written inside the cover? Or what other images there are?
Dear Mr Morris,
I just saw the blog by Michael Pritchard on your talks about JDLwellyn.
I enclose two photos. a montage which I believe contains a photo of JDL and his wife, and a photo of a house from the same album.
Could the house be connected to the Lwellyn family? Is the photo of the couple correctly identified?
I would value your comments. Kind regards,
Meir Berk
