Murer / Salex camera help wanted

Murer / Salex camera help wanted

Does anyone have catalogues for City Sale and Exchange, period 1915-1920? I have bought a Murer camera badged Salex, similar to the one they called ’Sprite’ but larger - or were there several Sprites, I don’t know. If there is anything in their lists on the subject I’d be very interested! And an instruction manual??

  • Its not a camera I'm familiar with but have started a quick search on some of the University/Institutioanl archived docs/catalogues for you, its very limited so far unfortunately. I'll check my own library when next in the studio on Friday.

    Interesting camera though.

  • I have, yes, and it's clear from the BJA references that there were quite a few minor variants - could be a whole field of collecting in itself! What I haven't yet been able to resolve is a problem setting the shutter. Something isn’t “catching” when I set the slit width using the scale at the back, resulting in the same slow speed every time. Unless there is a trick in the manual that I haven't got, I guess there is a bit of unhappy mechanism inside that I'll need to investigate.

  • I assume youve already seen this
