ican't find much about this John Watson except that he was a [miniature] painter. i think it's likely that V&A [again] miscredited the nude and that it is by Goodman as well. maybe Goodman wanted to present the picture to his neighbour and put his name on the back?
Interesting you should suggest that as Goodman and Watson shared premises at 2 Westbourne Grove, Bayswater, in 1854 and I have other stereos featuring the same model in front of a background that also appears in some Goodman stereos, so there is definitely a connection.
i think the stereo of the lady in the mirror is by C. E Goodman. the "pretty reflection" is more often attributed to Reynolds, the TOBY-blindstamp can be found on other views by known photographers so that's a bit conspicuous. some think TOBY is a french couple and further "they" are a mystery...
There are 65 GWWs in the Holmes collection at MFA,Boston, out of 1434 stereoviews.
I spent 6 1/2 hrs in the galleries, viewing "Matisse in the Studio" and Botticelli among other delights...
This is the only genre stereoview in the Dr OW Holmes collection in MFA,Boston: "Pretty Reflections!"
