The De Beers compounds in Kimberley during the 1880's and 90's were pretty terrible places to live and from which to work.

  • This is indeed a Photo of General Louis Botha, not the compounds in Kimberley. No idea how it got this caption. It show him at Glencoe, North of Ladysmith in Natal, which was the general's headquarters. This was taken in March 1900

  • This photo of Genl Louis Botha (later[1910] the premier of the Union of South Africa)  was taken in Pretoria.
