Dear Grant, I couldn't contribute to Do Not Bend earlier but would be glad to recount my recollections of Bill, who I met in Tempe, AZ in 1980 and ended up studying with him and Van Deren Coke there in 1990, shortly after which I got him shortlisted as a potential Head of the Elam School of Fine Arts at the U of Auckland which stuffed him around so he wrote an open letter about why it was obvious to him that he would not get the job despite being the most distinguished applicant. He was a great inspiration whom I miss dearly and through whom I re-met David Hurn and met Martin Parr in NZ. www.jbt.photoshelter.com
