  • Hi Gael. Sorry to trouble you but how do you know that Vassereanji was a Parsi ? Is this based on the name or something else ?

  • Thank you both for your comments.

Shrimal studio in Udaipur fits the inscription and the period.

I will follow up on Anil Relia’s booklets.

    Thanks again.

  • The shrimal photo house Udaipur? might be this firm https://www.facebook.com/shrimalstudio/about

D Nasserwanji  was a long running Parsi run studio in Bombay starting late 19th and under successive owners until the 1940s

Identification is difficult unless you have Indian friends who can steer you to the right ethnicity . sometimes you can spot the studio props  Anil Relia's  series of booklets on The Indian Portrait https://www.facebook.com/shrimalstudio/about

  • I can’t help with your direct questions; but to say that I have a studio portrait of my Indian grandfather taken in Goa (likely early 1930’s) wearing a suit and sat at a desk. My grandfather was a forestry commissioner in Goa. It might be worth asking someone who knows about Costume.
