  • I think the two Calotype negatives  I have are on the Facebook page referenced already on this page below. GO C!

  • Do I take it from the lack of response that nobody accepts my view? Aside to this - isn't it fascinating that the "ghostly" outline of a number of people is, because of the time exposure, clearly visible against the churchyard wall?

  • This photo is definitely of All Saints' Church at Elton, Cambridgeshire (formerly Huntingdonshire). I have a postcard (1912) which was taken from almost the same angle. I have a print of the watermill at Elton which JMH must have photographed on the same visit from his home at Conington Castle. I should be grateful if you know of any more photos by JMH - apart from the other on site. JMH was a friend of "Cuthbert Bede" whilst the latter was curate at Glatton-with-Holme (1850-54); also with Capt. Grenville Wells of Holme Wood House, nr. Stilton, whom "Bede" in a letter to a friend mentioned he had been out 'helping to Talbotype' with Wells.

  • I have today been looking at the Church photos in the "Fen" where he lived. None ID as of yet! There are nine pages of Fen area chuches on line.I have had these hidden away for over 40 yrs without seraching info till today when I found them in my boxes!

  • This could be John Moyer Heathcote (See: http://www.norrismuseum.org.uk/collections/Photographs.asp)  The architectural styles appears to be from Cambridgeshire/East Anglia. I have asked an expert friend to assist with identification... Many churches went through major 'restoration' in the Victorian period so it may not look exactlythe same today.

Heathcote is listed in Taylor's Impressed by Light in Taylor and Schaaf's Biographical dictionary of British Calotypists.
