Daguerreotype by Claudet

1/4 plate. Cased.Tentatively dated 1847-51Condition is poor (looks like someone has tried to clean it!) but amazing how you can scan and improve dags!Someone has suggested a likeness to John Ruskin, but Ruskin scholars have pretty much ruled this out. So who might the sitter be?Further photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/whatsthatpicture/tags/claudet/

  • Fantastic image, it reminds me of the old Tin plates I have from Canada.
