Albumen print and waxed paper negative, 10-5/8 x 8-3/16 in. (270 x 208 mm), 1860/1860, unmounted. #7365. Magnificent pairing of a very modernist looking image. Its regular stone structure and graphic point of view make the image and negative a strong grouping. Title printed on recto mount along with photographer's stamp. Negative is slightly larger at 11-3/4 x 9-1/8 inches. Negative number 15 from the De Clercq's first Syrian album No.2, "Chateaux tu temps des Croisades en Syrie." See: Mayer, Louis De Clercq: Voyage en Orient, p.93, pl.15.
