Hello Terence, Yes they were bought by a dealer, Michael Down, and there were a few duplicates. His email is mike.down@btinternet.com. I have a few old photos of Alan but don't know of any attributed to Horst. Though now you mention it there are some that are a bit reminiscent of his style. Is there anywhere I can see it?
Only just spotted your fabulous photos of Ranji we only have a few in the NPG..would be wonderful to hve more were there any duplicated..were they bought by a deal..do you have the Horst photo of Alan Ross..thanks

I have inherited a collection of photographs of the cricketing Prince, K.S.Ranjitsinhji, from my late father Alan Ross, whose biography ‘Ranji, Prince of Cricketers’, was published by Collins in 1983. While researching the book, he was given the photographs by Prince Satrusalyasinhji, Ranji’s great nephew.
The majority of photographs show Ranji either alone, dressed in either Western or Indian clothes, or with other cricketers – including a few with W.G.Grace. Others show him hunting leopards and there is a splendid one of him in a vintage motor car.
The largest group of images are from ‘VanDyk, London S.W.’, but others are by Lafayette Ltd., Rotogravure, London, Scott & Wilkinson, Cambridge, Messrs Stearn Cambridge, F.Foxton, Scarborough. There are also some from Indian studios: Vernon & Co., Bombay, Joshi & Vara, Jamnagar and Mehta’s Studio, Rajkote, to mention a few.
I would be interested in offering them for sale if anyone was interested or could suggest a suitable destination.
