COUNTY BURGHERS

I am posting such images not just because of the family connection but more for the sense they provide of the period. Such images really do provide us with a portal by which we get to look back in time. The slightly lost figure with the walrus moustache, just right of centre is my great grandfather, TP McKenna, and he is with this group as a grandee of the county council. It looks to be the opening or dedication of a hospital and we see frock coats and grand beards are the order of the day. However, look at the younger group in the rear and we can see the change in the times. Clean cut and shaven and suited rather than coated. This being Ireland also there are at least two priests in the group.
