From a 1916 photo. Here two white circles on the top of an aircraft are shown to be separated by the width of one and a third grid widths, from which they determine it is around 130 yards away (i.e. one grid equates to 100 yards). Are the other photos of white circles part of an experiment in measuring distance from aircraft?

Sorry, my logic is faulty. It is wrong to say "one grid equates to 100 yards". But I am sure the circles and the use of the grid assist in the determination of the distance.
