Renowned British photography editor, writer, critic and educator Bill Jay made it possible for me to make daguerreotypes as an undergraduate art student at ASU. I owe the direction of my life to him.

I'm flattered to meet you, My hat is off to you for your work! Congratulations on "Do Not Bend." Worthwhile for a memorable man, and a loving tribute. I guess you knew Bill pretty well?
I first ran aground on Bill's reef as an undergraduate student in photography at Arizona State University in 1975. Never got free. Good grief I have stories!
And a couple of friends that are now a small Bill Jay fan club with me. M.V. Swanson was ahead of me at ASU, in the MFA program, and I'm so glad she featured in your film. She's brilliant.(Thanks for the two credits I got in your film, too !)
I'm at your disposal... however you want to proceed. I can type OK, but if you want to chat, that is absolutely fine too. There's a lot to tell. And I'm such a small slice in Bill's large life.
I am the maker of Do Not Bend: The Photographic Life of Bill Jay and presenter/producer of the In Search of Bill Jay podcast. You can find the latter here www.unitednationsofphotography.com and all podcast platforms. Just look for A Photographic Life @unofphoto.
I knew of your images of Bill but not your recollections, I presume you met him when he was at ASU, am I right?
I've watched the film, and I love it. A great tribute. I knew Bill very well, and then kind of lost track of him after about 1985. I do have many of his books.
'Grant's podcasts on Jay..." Grant who? I don't do Facebook or other "Social Media". I'm happy on being on 'The Cutting Edge of Yesterday'. Sorry for being out of the loop.

Hi Ken
I never met Bill, which has helped me be objective in my research and work.
Would be great to speak via Zoom at some point. I will send you an email.
Best wishes
