  • Hi Ian,

    Thanks for commenting.

Yes, it is Schaaf 2728, I have a copy of Schaaf's "The photographic Art of... and of course that is a beautiful example. No, it has not been removed. It is intact in a fine copy of The Art Union 1846, which i purchased for a pittance about 10 years ago on ebay. The image is faded of course, but less than many I have seen from The Art Union,

As for my digital image, I did darken it a tiny bit. yes, I'm guilty of that- but it's a nice copy? no?

  • Hi David

This appears to be a nice copy of the image SCHAAF 2728 and is described in Larry Schaafs' book on page 164.  I notice also that Talbot also mention his views of Orleans in his 1844 letter which you can check  here.

I suspect from the image that this has been removed from its original Art Union volume. Is this the case?

I'm not sure if your digital image has been 'improved' but the fading does not appears as bad a some.

  • "One of the Towers of Orleans Cathedral as seen from the opposite Tower" From Nature 1843

As published in the 1846 issue of The Art Union.

Faded as usual, but I think a nice large example. 16 x 20 cm.
